Thais Carter

Digital Program Support Coordinator

In a career that includes experience in journalism, marketing and higher education, the throughline is a commitment to content as continuing education. In the Office of Digital Learning, I see an opportunity to invest the attention and resources necessary to develop digital platforms and practices that can make education more accessible and engaging.

As the Bonnie and Peter Raquet Endowed Chair of the Institute for Leadership and Service at Valparaiso University I launched a speaker series focused on vocational discernment, along with a research conference, skill-building workshops and a summer fellowship program, each with distinctive digital components. As the Senior Manager for Global PR and Media Relations at KaVo Kerr I helped conceive of and execute content marketing campaigns that prioritized storytelling over sales in digital engagmentof current and potential customers.  As Group Editorial Director for Advanstar Dental Media, I ushered a 40-year-old brand online for the first time, created a weekly video series for the audience and was instrumental in engaging new media platforms.

My vocation, at its core, is to advocate for the value of storytelling. Whether it is in education, civic engagement, vocational discernment or personal enrichment, stories are powerful and it is good, important work to find new ways of bringing more stories to more people, especially those that lift up voices too often relegated to the margins.

When my nose isn’t in a book, I’m cooking (more likely, baking!) or watching the latest superhero/sci-fi/fantasy movie with my beautiful kids—Isaiah, Sam and James—and partner, Heath.
